Located at the 2nd kilometer of the road turning north from the 44th kilometer of Antalya – Alanya highway, Aspendos is famous for having the best preserved Roman theater not only in Anatolia but also in the whole Mediterranean world. The city was founded on a hill plain near Köprüçay (Ancient Eurymedon), one of the largest rivers in the region. Aspendos owes its access to the Mediterranean and its development to the nearby river and thus to the fertile lands around it. Today, the theater and waterways are mostly visited. The ruins of other buildings belonging to the city are located on the plain of the hill where the theater rests.
